Climate KIC operates as a not-for-profit foundation working through public-private partnership, wielding both public and private funding. Established in 2010 and headquartered in Amsterdam, we orchestrate a community of more than 150 organisations including large corporations and SMEs, municipal and regional governments, universities and research institutes, as well as non-governmental organisations and civil society actors.   

Climate KIC leads the implementation of the European Union’s Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities and the launch pilot of the Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, both with the objective of catalysing rapid and deep transformation on a large scale, creating the precedent and economic transition conditions for demonstration, learning, capacity building, fast followership and investment. Achieving the EU Cities Mission will mean avoided scope 1 and 2 emissions alone of an estimated 0.7GT CO2e between now and 2040.  

Climate KIC has a Remote-First approach, where colleagues work remotely from home based in one of the countries where we have a branch or employing entity (and can work out of local offices or co-working seats, where they exist). We meet at our local offices to exchange and connect and use online collaboration tools to work with each other and with our community. On occasion, we meet in person as teams, and once per year as an organisation.  

As a mission-driven organisation dedicated to climate transformation, we consider the climate impact of our own actions, for example travel, catering, or IT equipment.  

 

ABOUT THE ROLE  

Climate KIC is looking for a communications expert to manage brand, marketing, communications and outreach activities for our projects funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Our focus in this work is entrepreneurial education and training activities, as well as place-based innovation and systemic transformation activities with diverse local stakeholders.  

 

Key Responsibilities  

  • Contribute to the development of communication and dissemination plans.  

  • Development and implementation of marketing materials (digital and print), and social media campaigns.  

  • Coordination with (Communications) teams of other EIT KIC’s and engagement with the EIT ecosystem/ community. 

  • Writing and coordinating input for funder reporting.   

  • Internal communications and coordination between all teams working on the project. 

  • Supplier management (procurement, contracting, onboarding, quality and compliance management).

  • Climate KIC’s Communications and Marketing team.

ABOUT YOU  
To be successful in this role, you will be a skilled and mission-driven communicator who thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environments. You’re both a strategist and a doer: someone who can connect the dots across complex projects while also rolling up your sleeves to deliver high-quality, timely communications. You’ll be focused on communications work linked to our EIT-funded activities, while also contributing to the shared goals and collective rhythm of Climate KIC’s broader brand, marketing, and communications efforts. You’re comfortable working independently, but bring strong team energy and a solutions-oriented mindset. You are meticulously organised with the ability to predict a projects’ pathway from start to finish. You’re able to translate data sets into visual aids and compelling narratives.

Job requirements

Experience  

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working with project management for mixed media communications.  

  • Experience working with Horizon Europe/ EU funded projects is preferred.  

  • Experience working with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology is a plus. 

  • Experience working with communications and marketing for education and learning organisations/ projects/ products.  

 

Skills  

  • Fluent in English , skills in Polish, Spanish, Greek, Italian are a plus.  

  • Experience or willingness to work with collaborative IT applications (we use Office365 and Microsoft Teams, as well as Miro, Zoom, Mentimeter etc.)  

  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills, in particular related to climate, innovation or sustainability 

  • Ability to distill complex topics into accessible and engaging content for diverse audiences 

  • Strong research capabilities and the commitment to robust, evidence-based communications.  

  • Ability to develop compelling social media campaigns 

  • Skilled in managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering to tight deadlines 

  • Excellent communication, team work, networking and interpersonal skills 

  • Experience using AI tools is a plus

Location  

Candidates must have the right to work in the location they’re applying for (I.e. not require visa sponsorship) prior to applying for the position. Ideally, the successful candidate will be based close to a Climate KIC office, but we support fully remote or hybrid forms of working and offer a high degree of flexibility.
